Selecting the right locations for your wedding
Traditionally weddings have been held either in a church, synagogue, temple or other religious building where the bride and groom share a common faith, or at a register office. However, in the modern age more and more couples are choosing more unusual locations such as beaches and sports venues. The decision of where to hold your wedding is not as straightforward as you may think, so take your time in choosing the right location.
If the bride and groom are of the same religion, then choosing the right location can be very straightforward; the only major problem that may arise is the availability of dates. Be aware that many churches and other places of worship are limited in the number of weddings they can accommodate, so be sure to book as far in advance as possible to ensure that you get the date you want.
If you are not religious or decide for other reasons not to hold the ceremony at a place of worship, your options truly are only limited by your imagination. A wedding can be held virtually anywhere and most venues are available for hire and will be as accommodating as possible. The array of venues used recently have ranged from football grounds, country clubs and private homes to golf courses and yachts. Even mountain tops and national parks are available if this is your dream wedding location.
However, even if a certain location is your dream come true, you must also think of the practicalities and logistics involved. Can your chosen number of guests be accommodated safely? If you choose an outdoor venue, how likely is bad weather to affect the ceremony, and can a backup venue be used if this does happen? Also remember that some unusual venues will not have mains electricity readily available, although this may not matter depending on your wedding’s theme. If you are holding a beach wedding, for instance, then acoustic instruments will add to the atmosphere and give the proceedings a more intimate feel.
When you have selected a location, your next step is to see if the venue is available for weddings and if your chosen dates are available. If all is good on these details then you need to find out what is included in the price that you pay. Will the venue provide catering and, if so, in what form? Will it be a sit-down meal or a buffet? Find out if the venue is licensed for the supply of alcohol and whether you need to pay extra for certain drinks such as champagne.
So when choosing a location take the time not only to choose the right one, but also to go over every detail to make sure that the venue will cater for all of your wedding needs and expectations.
