Writing the best man’s speech
Following on from our new series about weddings around the world (see the latest here: Lake Hubbard Weddings) we thought it would be fun to look at a topic which strikes terror into the hearts of strong men – writing a best man’s speech.

The best man plays a central part in any wedding, although he no longer has to stand in if the groom fails to turn up to the marriage ceremony(!). He fixes up the stag night, is often the master of ceremonies at the wedding reception, and usually makes the final speech at the wedding breakfast. There are several purposes which the best man’s speech has to fulfil: he has to thank people, to talk a little about the bride (flatteringly) and groom (teasingly), and to propose the toast to the bridesmaids. But if you’ve never written a best man’s speech before, and you’ve got to write one, don’t worry – there’s plenty of help out there.
